Since I graduated from medical college in 2009, I have studied with no interruptions for eight years. I have completed a residency in internal medicine from 2010 to 2014 and a fellowship in gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy from 2014 to 2017. Last February I graduated from my fellowship in advanced therapeutic digestive endoscopy. I have completed all my training at the “Dr. José Eleuterio Gonzalez” University Hospital affiliated to the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. I joined the staff of the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the same institution. I have published research papers regarding eosinophilic esophagitis, acute pancreatitis, acute cholangitis, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, however, my most important work is focused on the role of impaired glucose metabolism and diabetes on the outcome in cirrhotic patients. It is important to mention that our study group is one of the few all over the world who has demonstrated a correlation between subtle alterations in the metabolism of carbohydrates and a poor outcome in cirrhotic patients. We have also encouraged the scientific community to establish the term hepatogenous diabetes in this group of patients. Lastly, we are focusing on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, especially on the factors that predispose patients to reach non-alcoholic steatohepatitis with special interest on the role of diabetes.
