Dr. Konstantinos Lasithiotakis, born in 1978 in Crete (Greece), studied medicine in the University of Heraklion. At the age of twenty three he completed his medical degree and five years later he completed his PhD degree in medicine on the topic of malignant melanoma of skin. During 2005-2007 he worked as postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Dermato-oncology in the University of Tuebingen. His topic of research was mainly on preclinical assessment of new melanoma targeted treatments. He received the scholarship of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service). In 2013, he completed his specialization in general surgery in the University Hospital of Crete (Greece). He received the major clinical training fellowship grant of the European Society of Surgical Oncology for 2013 and worked for six months in the Department of Visceral and Oncological Surgery of the Hospital Klinikum Bremen Mitte in Bremen (Germany). In 2014, he passed the European Board of Surgery Examinations for Surgical Oncology. He was appointed in 2015 as consultant general surgeon with interest in UGI surgery in Scarborough Hospital, York Teaching Hospitals, NHS Foundation Trust in the UK. His main research interests are melanoma and sarcoma surgery. In 2017 he was elected as Assistant Professor of Surgery in the University of Crete, Greece. He has research activity in gastrointestinal surgery as well as in geriatric surgery. He has published more than 50 articles in international medical journals and has over 100 presentations in national and international meetings. He has authored 4 chapters in textbooks of surgery and melanoma and he is member of the editorial board of three cancer journals and reviewer in several melanoma, surgery and gastroenterology journals. He is member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO), member of the Membership advisory committee of ESSO and member of the Steering Committee of the Young Surgical Oncologists Club of ESSO. He is a member of American Society of Surgical Oncology and the Hellenic Society of Surgical Oncology. He is a founding member and current treasurer of the Hellenic Society of Geriatric Surgery a society aiming to promote research and to improve the quality of care of the elderly surgical patient.
