Editorial Board Member of World Journal of Stem Cells, Dr. Maria Gaitanou is a Distinguished Researcher at Hellenic Pasteur Institute, Athens, Greece. Dr. Gaitanou received her BSc. in Biology at 1994 from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and then performed her PhD thesis until 2000 in Molecular Neurobiology. During the period 2006-2010 she worked as Lecturer of Developmental Neurobiology at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. Nowadays she is Associate Researcher in the Department of Neurobiology at Hellenic Pasteur Institute and Elected Member of the Scientific Council. From 2008 until 2016 she has teaching Neurobiology in the Master’s Program “Molecular Medicine", of the Medical School of Athens, and from 2017 up to date, she is teaching at “Athens International Master’s Program in Neurosciences” launched in 2017 as part of the Network of European Neuroscience Schools (NENS). Maria Gaitanou has a good quality publication record including publications in Cell Mol Life Sci, eLife, Stem Cell Reports, Mech Ageing Dev, Pharmaceutics, World J Stem Cells, Stem Cells Int, Neurosci Bull, Neuropharmacology etc. Maria Gaitanou’s long-term research interests focus on nervous system development, molecules controlling cell cycle exit and neuronal differentiation, neural stem cell biology, as well as neurodegeneration/ neuroregeneration molecular mechanisms, aiming at translational approaches for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, under the scope of targeted therapies and personalized medicine.
