Reshetnyak Vasiliy Ivanovich; MD, PhD, doctor of medicine science, professor; Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases and Gastroenterology, Russian University of Medicine Current research interests lie in the study of pathogenesis and treatment of cholestatic liver diseases [in particular primary biliary cholangitis (PBC)], the significance of dormant forms of Helicobacter pylori in ulcerogenesis. Currently the author of the concept of pathogenetic development of the first signs of PBC, the mechanism of formation and the significance of antimitochondrial antibodies (AMA) in PBC. Based on these ideas, proposals of pathogenetically based therapeutic approaches in the treatment of PBC are being developed. A new concept for the treatment of pruritus in patients with intrahepatic cholestasis is proposed. Under the direction of prof. Reshetnyak 5 candidate (PhD) and 2 doctoral (DSc) theses were prepared and defended. Dr Reshetnyak is the author (co-author) of several monographs, textbooks and more than 170 published articles in Russian and foreign journals. I have a H-index of 11. I am a member of the Association of Gastroenterologists of Russia. Professor Reshetnyak is a member of the editorial boards of the journals ‘World Journal of Gastroenterology’ and ‘General Reanimathology’. He was awarded the Robert Koch Medal of the European Scientific Society. I have been a member of the editorial board of WJG since 2001. I actively participate in reviewing articles dedicated on cholestatic liver diseases, peptic ulcer disease and Helicobacter pylori. I publish an average of one article per year, including one editorial and several review articles. The article on cholelithiasis published in 2012 in WJH is still a high impact article (ranked 28th). In 2005, he was actively involved in the creation of the Journal of "General Reanimathology", which enter in rank Q3. I was the executive secretary of this journal until 2018. The priority scientific direction for me in the near future I consider research aimed at studying the pathogenesis of cholestatic liver diseases and the development of new ways of their treatment. A good knowledge of the biochemistry and clinical manifestations in cholestatic liver diseases helps to make important analyses of current data and to propose concepts of the mechanism of their development. Working for a long time as deputy director (6 years) of the Institute of Gastroenterology and then as scientific secretary (15 years) of the Institute of Reanimatology and as scientific secretary of the thesis defence council I gained communication, management, active listening, problem solving skills and competences. The teaching work at the university facilitates the involvement of young doctors in scientific work. I enjoy reading scientific and fiction literature.
