Professor Madhav Bhatia is a world-renowned scientist known for his seminal research on inflammation. He has shown hydrogen sulfide and substance P as mediators of inflammation and novel therapeutic targets for inflammatory diseases. He has made significant contributions to show the mechanism by which they act. In recent years, He has also been working on novel markers for diagnosis and prognosis of inflammatory and infectious diseases. He has authored more than 200 publications, which have been cited more than 22000 times, his “h” index is 76, and he has been recognised as one of the top 2 % scientists in the world in the area of Immunology. He has also been recognised as a Highly Ranked Scholar (among top 0.05% of scholars globally) by ScholarGPS, and as one of the top scientists in the discipline of Biology and Biochemistry by Research.com. Professor Madhav Bhatia began his career at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in India, then after working at the Institut de Génétique et de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (France), Harvard Medical School (USA), University of Liverpool (UK) and National University of Singapore (Singapore), he was recruited by the University of Otago, New Zealand. Therefore, Professor Madhav Bhatia has worked and lived in six different countries and has experience of interacting with people from different countries representing diverse cultures. Professor Madhav Bhatia plays a major role in research supervision and leadership, and has supervised more than 50 doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows, and research scientists, many of whom are now independent investigators in their own right.
