Andrew Day completed his medical degree (MB, ChB) at University of Otago, graduating in 1986. After undertaking paediatric training in Christchurch, he undertook subspecialty training in Paediatric Gastroenterology at Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada. During this time, he completed an MD. After completing training, Andrew took up an academic position at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. Andrew established his research career, with focus upon host-pathogen interactions, and key aspects of inflammatory bowel disease in children. In 2009, Andrew took up a new position at University of Otago, Christchurch, New Zealand. Over the last years, Andrew has established a research team in NZ, with increasing endeavours in NZ in conjunction with  continuing research activities in Sydney Australia. Andrew's key research themes are host/pathogen interactions, nutrition and nutritional therapy in IBD, inflammatory biomarkers, and the epidemiology of paediatric inflammatory bowel disease.
