I am Giovanna Ferraioli, MD, qualified as Associate Professor at ASN 2017 and working at Department of Clinical, Surgical, Diagnostic and Pediatric Sciences, University of Pavia, Italy. My research focuses on liver shear wave elastography in diffuse liver disease and liver fat quantification. Shear wave elastography is crucial in diagnosing and managing chronic liver disease. It non-invasively stages liver fibrosis and it’s able to assess the risk of complications or outcomes. Studies show it can predict clinically significant portal hypertension and liver-related events in patients with advanced chronic liver disease. New ultrasound-based biomarkers that non-invasively quantify liver fat content are now available. Given the widespread prevalence of steatotic liver disease, these biomarkers are highly valuable for evaluating the presence and severity of hepatic steatosis. I have contributed to multiple international guidelines on these research topics. I’ve chaired the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) Steering Committee for “Multiparametric Ultrasound: Update to WFUMB 2018 elastography guidelines and consensus on fat quantification”, and I am the first and corresponding author of the released guidelines. I am a member of the Education Committee of WFUMB, co-chair of the attenuation working group of the AIUM-RSNA QIBA Pulse Echo Quantitative Ultrasound (PEQUS) Biomarker Committee, member of the ACR LIRADS Quantitative Imaging Work Group, and chair for the Elastography Community of Practice for the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM). I am head of the ultrasound section of the Scientific Editorial Board of European Radiology, subspecialty Editor of Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, and member of the Editorial Board of World Journal of Gastroenterology, Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology, Diagnostics, Journal of Ultrasound. I am co-director of the European Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) Ultrasound Learning Center (ULC) at the Medical School University of Pavia (Italy). I have published 40 articles as first author or co-corresponding author in important academic SCI journals such as Hepatology, Radiology, Ultrasound In Medicine and Biology, and a total of 145 articles. My articles have been cited over 14,000 times in SCI journals, including Gut, Journal of Hepatology, Radiology, and Hepatology. I’ve been invited to give speeches at more than 200 international conferences. My Google Scholar's H-index is 51 and my Scopus H-index is 45. I have peer-reviewed over 1,100 manuscripts for more than 100 academic journals including, among others, Gut, Journal of Hepatology, Hepatology, The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Liver International. I’m member of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), European Society of Radiology (ESR), Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR), Italian Society for the Study of the Liver (AISF), Italian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (SIUMB), Mediterranean and African Society of Ultrasound (MASU). My area of expertise is noninvasive assessment of diffuse liver disease and I excel in critical thinking and have strong skills in active listening, communication, interpersonal relations, leadership, mentoring, management, and problem-solving. I like reading, listening to music and running.
