I graduated in November 1978, from Cairo University (Excellent with Honours), and received an MSc in paediatrics in May 1982, also from Cairo University (Excellent), then a Doctorate Degree in paediatrics in November 1986 from both Cairo and London Universities as a conjoint supervision Doctorate Degree under supervision of late Professors Alex P Mowat (University of London) and Mohamed A Safouh (Cairo University). I worked as a House Officer at Cairo University Hospitals (1/3/1979-29/2/1980), then a Resident of Paediatrics at Cairo University Hospitals (13/3/1980-12/3/1983) and Clinical Demonstrator of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University (13/3/1983-27/3/1987). I joined King’s College Hospital in London, (UK) as a Research Fellow in Paediatric Hepatology from July/1984-July/1985, then returned to Cairo as a Lecturer of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University from 28/3/1987-28/4/1992 (during that time, I worked as a Consultant Paediatrician at Dr. A T Bakhsh Hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia). I was appointed as an Assistant Professor of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University, from 29/4/1992-24/6/1997 (during that time, I was appointed as a Visiting Professor at the Pediatric Gastroenterology Section, Upstate University, Syracuse, New York, 4/2003-5/2003). I was promoted to full Professor of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University from 25/6/1997 to 28/08/2014. Since that date, my current position is an Emeritus Professor of Paediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. I was awarded the Cairo University Award of Appreciation in Medical Sciences in 2010 and the Cairo University Award of Distinction in Medical Sciences in 2018. I supervised more than 50 Master Degree theses and 25 MD Degree theses as well as several local, national and international research projects. I contributed more than 60 papers published in peer-reviewed Journals and 8 book chapters in international books. I am a member of several International Associations/Societies in Pediatrics and Hepatology including the International Pediatric Association, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, European Association for the Study of the Liver and the International Society of Tropical Pediatrics. I am also an Editorial Board Member of several peer-reviewed Journals, and reviewer for many Journals.
