I am Pál Miheller MD, PhD, DSc, professor of gastroenterology and head of Gastroenterology Unit at Semmelweis University, Department of Surgery, Transplantation and Gastroenterology. I'm a leading expert in IBD in Hungary, with numerous international connections and recognition. My main area of interest is the borderline areas of IBD, such as inflammation-related bone loss, nutritional status, anaemia, and increased risk of thromboembolic events. In the same time I am a key opinion leader regarding use of biologics and other advanced therapies ont he field of IBD in Hungary. I participated in 627 scientific publications, total number of independent citation is 2920. Among them 168 is peer reviewed (citation: 2457), I am the first or last author of 56 publications, my Hirsch index is 29. I have participated many domestic and international congresses as a lecturer and invited speaker. I am the leader of the writing committee of the Hungarian guidelines regarding inflammatory bowel disease. I am a member of the leadership of Hungarian Gastroenterological Association and Colon section of Hungarian Gastroenterological Association, and I am a member of the European Crohn's and Colitis Association. I am the organiser of the Hungarian IBD school. My main goals include supporting and educating young colleagues and disseminating knowledge about IBD. I am currently conducting research in the frontier area of IBD with my PhD students and scientific student group students. I am a principal investigator of many clinical trials on Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. I am a recognized member of the Hungarian Gastroenterology Society due to my good communication and team building skills. I teach in English and also for German speaking students in both of the internal medicine and surgical curriculum at our University. I have three adult kids and a loving wife. I do many sports, I have a 2nd degree of black belt of karate, and I do cycling as much as I can.
