• Professor Viswanath YKS is a senior consultant upper GI, laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeon and Visiting Chair at Teesside University, North of England, UK. I am the programme director for MCh postgraduate surgical specialities, working in collaboration with Teesside University in the North of England, UK. • He has represented regionally, nationally and internationally at various Upper GI and general surgery forums since 2001. He is a recognised national trainer for advanced laparoscopic surgery and in the national AUGIS, ALSGBI, and TUGSS councils. He is the President of the British Benign Upper GI Surgical Society (BBUGSS). • He has served as Upper GI lead and was instrumental in the centralisation of oesophago-gastric cancer services in Teesside and South Durham, UK. He has accomplished his tenure as the Cancer Lead Clinician in the NHS trust, a tertiary cancer centre in the North of England in the UK. He had held leadership portfolios such as the chairman for including ‘Upper GI cancer site specific group’ and Network information group’ with in the regional network. From the cancer governance view, he has been involved in the ‘National Cancer Peer Review’ process in the UK. He remains active in research and has presented more than 220 abstracts in national and international meetings and published many both clinical and scientific papers. • He holds a few national excellence and international awards, including ‘Global Icon NRI of the year (professional) category 2017. • He is the national proctor for Endoscopic Antireflux RF (Stretta) therapy, and has trained and mentored many over the years. • Over the years, has conveyed, organised many regional and national meetings, instrumental in running ‘Robotic and Laparoscopic Video Symposium’ for he last 11 yrs. Prof YKS Viswanath's research interests mainly focus on Upper Gastrointestinal (Oesophago-Gastric) cancer, including Barrett’s metaplasia. He works in close collaboration with the North of England regional universities (University of Durham and University of Teesside). His particular interests are cancer immunology and molecular biology in oesophageal cancer. He has supervised PhD, MSc, MCh, and MPhil students.
