Misha Luyer medical training started at the Radboud University in Nijmegen. Following research in the United States (Mayo Clinic) I started doctoral studies at the University of Maastricht. This resulted in a thesis on inhibition of the inflammatory response by nutrition. I was trained as a general surgeon at the Academic Hospital Maastricht (MUMC +) and the Orbis Medical Centre in Sittard. After my surgical training I have done a fellowship abdominal surgery at the Catharina Hospital. During this fellowship I specialized in esophageal and gastric surgery and pancreatic surgery. My research activities focus on optimalization of postoperative recovery by manipulation of perioperative inflammation. I have a special focus for laparoscopic surgery.
