Zoltán Rakonczay, M.D. (1999), Ph.D. (2002), Dr. habil. (2010), D.Sc. (2013) is a Professor at the Department of Pathophysiology, University of Szeged in Hungary. His research interests include the roles of heat shock proteins, cytokines, free radicals and the transcription factor NF-kB in the pathogenesis of acute pancreatitis. He is also involved in studying the physiology and pathophysiology of pancreatic ductal bicarbonate and fluid secretion. Dr. Rakonczay is a council member of the Pancreatic section and the Research Forum of the Hungarian Gastroenterological Society. He is a recipient of numerous prizes, awards and grants. Dr. Rakonczay is a reviewer for several prestigious journals such as Gastroeneterology, Gut, Nature Communications, Critical Care Medicine, The Journal of Pathology and Journal of Cellular Physiology. He is editorial board member of World Journal of Gastroenterology and Pancreatology. He is academic editor of PLOS ONE and Mediators of Inflammation and is associate editor of Pancreas. He has authored, coauthored and edited more than 100 research papers, reviews, books and book chapters.
