María Fernanda Troncoso (PhD) is Director of the Laboratory of Tumor Glycobiology Laboratory at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Researcher of the Argentinean National Research Council (CONICET) and Professor of Biological Chemistry at the School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Buenos Aires, Argentina. She received her M.Sc. degree in Biology at School of Exact and Natural Sciences (UBA) in 1999 and her PhD degree in Biological Chemistry at the School of Pharmacy and Biochemistry (UBA) in 2004. After that, she obtained a Postdoctoral Fellowship from CONICET and since 2008 she is a member of the Research Career from the same institution. Her laboratory is interested in studying the role of galectins, glycan-binding proteins, in tumor glycobiology. Particularly, her research is focused on understanding the relevance of galectin-1 in liver cancer progression and dissemination, and the mechanisms involved. As a leader group, she published several peer-reviewed articles in important international journals including Hepatology, Journal of Cellular Physiology, World Journal of Gastroenterology, Glycobiology, Cell Death and Disease and World Journal of Hepatology. She has served as Editorial Board Member of World Journal of Gastroenterology since 2013 and has also collaborated as Ad hoc reviewer of several other journals.
