I am Professor Vasily A. Isakov, MD, PhD, AGAF, and currently serve as Chief of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Federal Research Centre of Nutrition, Biotechnology and Food Safety in Moscow, Russia. I received my MD degree with honors from the Nikolai Pirogov Russian State Medical University, where I also completed my postgraduate training in internal medicine and gastroenterology. My research interests include the pathogenesis and treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), viral hepatitis, and functional gastrointestinal disorders, as well as the impact of nutrition and specific nutrients on gastrointestinal and liver diseases. Over the years, I have had the privilege of supervising 24 PhD candidates in gastroenterology and nutrition, all of whom successfully defended their dissertations. Since 2019, according to the results of an open competition, I have become the head of the mega-grant of the Presidential Program of research projects implemented by leading scientists: "Research by world-class research laboratories as Part of the implementation of the priorities of scientific and technological Development of the Russian Federation". I am the author or co-author of more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, editorials, book chapters, and conference abstracts. As of 2024, my work has been cited over 10,630 times, with an h-index of 39 (Google Scholar). I currently serve on the editorial boards of Best Practice & Research Clinical Gastroenterology, World Journal of Gastroenterology, Experimental and Clinical Gastroenterology, Voprosy Pitaniya, and Voprosy Dietologii. Throughout my career, I have been honored with several awards, including the Abrikosov Prize of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Nikolai Pirogov Prize, and the Moscow Government Award in Medical Research. I am an active member of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL), and the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), and I am a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).
