Andrea Ballini, DDS, MSc, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Clinical Biochemistry and Clinical Molecular Biology at the Department of Life Sciences, Health and Health Professions of Link Campus University in Rome, Italy. His academic work is centred on translating laboratory and molecular discoveries into clinically relevant approaches that improve prevention, diagnosis, and patient care, particularly at the intersection of clinical biochemistry, oral medicine, dentistry, regenerative medicine, and precision health; what distinguishes his profile is his ability to integrate dental and medical expertise with molecular biology, biotechnology, and interdisciplinary translational research. Professor Ballini has contributed to approximately 270 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals, covering clinical biochemistry, oral and systemic diseases, stem cells, tissue engineering, biomaterials, microbiology, immunology, and evidence-based medicine. His work has received more than approximately 8,000 citations, and his Scopus h-index is 57. He has also been invited to present his research at numerous national and international scientific conferences, courses, and academic events. His scientific achievements have been recognised through awards including the Research Award of the Medical and Dental Council of Bari and the Sant’Apollonia Award of the Italian Dental Association for an outstanding clinical and scientific contribution to dental sciences. He collaborates with national and international research groups and participates in scientific and professional networks dedicated to medicine, dentistry, clinical biochemistry, oral health, and translational research. In addition to his research publications, Professor Ballini contributes actively to the international academic publishing community as an invited peer reviewer, Lead Guest Editor, Associate Editor, Section Editor, and member of the editorial boards of several scientific journals. His long-term professional goal is to strengthen the connection between fundamental biomedical research and clinical practice by developing innovative, personalised, and evidence-based strategies for disease prevention and management. His principal research interests include clinical biochemistry and molecular diagnostics, oral and systemic diseases, oral cancer, biomarkers, precision medicine, regenerative medicine, stem-cell biology, tissue engineering, microbiota, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and the development of multidisciplinary approaches capable of improving both individual and public health outcomes. Professor Ballini combines active listening and clear scientific communication with strong interpersonal, leadership, mentoring, management, and problem-solving skills. He has extensive experience in coordinating multidisciplinary activities, supporting students and early-career researchers, establishing international collaborations, managing research and educational projects, and communicating complex scientific concepts to academic, clinical, institutional, and general audiences. His approach to leadership is based on collaboration, professional responsibility, academic integrity, and the creation of opportunities through which colleagues and students can develop their abilities and contribute meaningfully to shared objectives.
