This is Ravi Mohanka, I am a hepato-biliary and liver transplant surgeon I trained in general surgery in India and multi-organ abdominal transplants at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. My fellowship training is accredited by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS). I am also certified by the ASTS Transplant Accreditation & Certification Council (TACC). I have also done an MSc in transplant from the University of Liverpool and an MBA from the University of Washington in St. Louis (WashU) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, India I serve as the Director of the liver transplant program at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai, India I also serve as the Professor of Surgery and Director of Living Donor Liver Transplant at Methodist Transplant Institute at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, TN, USA I have extensive experience in living donor liver transplants and liver cancer surgeries, both for adult and pediatric patients. I also have experience with pancreas, intestinal, and multi-visceral transplants. I have performed a large number of abdominal organ procurements from deceased donors, including donation after circulatory death (DCD). I have good experience in laparoscopic and robotic hepato-biliary surgery, including donor hepatectomy. I have good experience with technologies such as normothermic regional perfusion (nRP) and hypothermic and normothermic regional perfusion (HMP/NMP). I also work at the translational research lab, where I study the influence of mitochondrial transplantation on the liver after ischemia-reperfusion injury and hepatectomy. I have published about 75 articles, with a cumulative citation of more than 1300. 7 of which were as the first author and 5 as the senior (last) author. I have also published 16 book chapters and more than 250 abstracts. I have delivered more than 200 talks in national and international meetings among more than 400 faculty commitments. My research interest score is 630.5 and h-index is 19. I have teaching experience of more than 15 years and have trained more than 65 residents and fellows in transplant. I have published 2 theses/dissertations as part of my training and served as a guide for one student and co-guide for 3 students for their theses/dissertations. I am currently pursuing my PhD in transplant allocation systems. I am an active member of the following professional societies: - International College of Surgeons, Fellow (FICS) # M21136 - International Liver Transplant Society (ILTS), Member # 13692, served as the Chairman of Membership & Communication Committee, 2022 - 2023 - The Transplantation Society (TTS), Member # 4722 - International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IHPBA) - Clinical Robotic Surgery Association (CRSA) - Asia Pacific Association for Study of the Liver (APASL), Member # 2406 - Living Donor Liver Transplant (iLDLT) Study Group, Member # M151423 - International Laparoscopic Liver Society (ILLS), Member - Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO), Life Member # 0020830 - Cell Transplant and Regenerative Medicine Society (CTS) # 4722 - International Pancreas & Islet Transplant Association (IPITA), Member # 4722 - International Society for Organ Donation and Procurement (ISODP), Member # 4722 - Intestinal Transplantation Association (ITA), Member # 4722 - Asia-Pacific Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (A-PHPBA) - American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), Member # 3312 - American College of Surgeons (ACS), Fellow (FACS) # 03303391 - American Medical Association (AMA), Member # 49583980147 - American Society of Transplantation (AST), Member - American Association for The Study of Liver Disease (AASLD), Member # 181250 - Liver Transplant Society of India (LTSI), Founder Member # LTSI/2018/0058, served as the President, 2021 – 2022 - Indian Association of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (IAGES), Life Member # 5811 - Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI), Life Member, # 5672 - Indian Society of Organ Transplantation (ISOT), Life Member # LM 573 - Indian Society of Gastroenterology (ISG), Life Member # LM001954 - Indian National Association for Study of Liver Diseases (INASL), Life Member - Indian chapter of International Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (IC-IHPBA), Life Member # 206 - Indian Society of Surgical Gastroenterology (IASG), Life Member # M71 - Indian Medical Association (IMA), Life Member # MAH/7961/78/3181/70296/1999-00/CL - Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Life Member # 14129 - Gastroenterology Chapter of Indian Association of Pediatrics (IAP), Life Member - The Indian Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (IAPEN), Life Member # 4325-6532-9856-2722, LM - 2021 – 101 - Association of Robotic & Innovative Surgeons (ARIS), Life Member # ARIS SM-0243 I have been an active member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of our hospital for the last 10 years and have reviewed more than 50 protocols. I have been a reviewer for several prominent transplant journals and have reviewed more than 50 articles. I would like to establish a living donor liver transplant unit in the US, including robotic donor hepatectomy. I would also like to establish organ donation after circulatory death (DCDD) in India and optimise organs using technologies such as nRP and machine perfusion. My research interests are Donation after Circulatory Death (DCDD), normothermic regional perfusion (nRP), Ex-situ Machine perfusion, Ischemia-free liver transplant (IFLT), organ reconditioning using mitochondrial transplantation, organ allocation systems, improving access to transplant and transplant ethics, ischemia-reperfusion injury, primary and secondary liver cancers. I have served as the director of a leading liver transplant program for more than a decade, with my surgical expertise, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. I have mentored many surgeons, who have gone on to establish and currently run successful transplant units. I identify myself as a surgeon, scientist, and teacher. I am also a technology enthusiast and innovator. I am passionate about promoting organ donation and establishing fair and ethical organ allocation systems and have delivered a TEDx talk on the topic.
