Yuri L Boteon, MD, PhD, Professor. I am a Consultant Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Liver Transplant Surgeon and Professor of Surgery affiliated with University Santo Amaro in São Paulo, Brazil. My academic focus lies in organ preservation, transplantation, and translational innovation. I am driven by the belief that bridging laboratory discoveries with clinical application can transform outcomes for patients with end-stage liver disease. What differentiates my work is the integration of surgical practice, biomedical research, and management science to deliver evidence-based, cost-effective innovation. I hold a PhD in Transplant Immunology from the University of Birmingham, where I contributed to early development of normothermic machine liver perfusion, earning international awards from AASLD, EASL, ILTS, and the Brazilian National Academy of Medicine. In Brazil, I led the country’s first Hypothermic Oxygenated Perfusion (HOPE) program, introducing biomarker-driven graft assessment and performing the world’s longest HOPE perfusion. I have published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers, delivered over 40 international lectures, and currently hold an H-index of 20. I have reviewed more than 150 manuscripts and written invited commentaries on organ preservation and machine perfusion. Through these roles, I aim to support scientific integrity, mentorship, and collaboration across the transplant community. My long-term research goal is to advance precision perfusion and biomarker-guided viability assessment, integrating artificial-intelligence analytics to personalise donor-recipient matching. I bring strong communication, leadership, and mentoring skills, with experience managing multidisciplinary transplant teams and embedding governance and audit frameworks into innovation projects. Outside of medicine, I enjoy endurance sports, photography, and family life in the countryside—activities that keep me grounded, curious, and focused on continuous improvement.
