Dr. Shengxiao Zhang, MD, PhD, is a Professor, Master’s Supervisor, and Attending Physician in the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology at Shanxi Medical University Second Hospital, with adjunct roles as an International Student Supervisor and Visiting Scholar at Tsinghua University School of Medicine. Dr. Zhang pioneers transformative research at the intersection of evidence-based medicine, drug repositioning, and immune microecology, driven by a vision to redefine autoimmune disease treatment through precision immunomodulation and computational innovation. His work uniquely integrates deep molecular analysis, Mendelian randomization, and AI-driven drug discovery to develop targeted therapies that restore immune tolerance in rheumatic diseases, distinguishing him as a leader in next-generation rheumatology research. His scholarly impact is evidenced by 200+ peer-reviewed publications (110+ in SCI-indexed journals), including 50+ first/corresponding-author papers in high-impact journals like Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. He holds 21 patents (1 European, 20 Chinese) and 19 software copyrights, spearheading innovations in AI-based drug repurposing and clinical data platforms. His accolades include the APLAR BEST ABSTRACT AWARD, International New Science Inventions BEST RESEARCHER AWARD, China International "Internet+" Gold Prize, iCAN International Innovation First Prize, and recognition as "Sanjinyingcai" Youth Elite and National "College Student of the Year." He actively contributes as a committee member of the Shanxi Medical Association Immunology & Microecology Branch. As an engaged academic citizen, Dr. Zhang has reviewed 100+ manuscripts for leading rheumatology, immunology, and bioinformatics journals and authored editorials/commentaries on emerging trends in autoimmune therapeutics and AI applications in medicine. His long-term research focuses on four pillars: Treg-cell-targeted therapies for autoimmune tolerance restoration; Gut microbiome-immune axis modulation in rheumatic diseases; AI/ML-driven drug repositioning pipelines for accelerated therapy discovery; Mendelian randomization to decipher causal disease mechanisms. Professionally, Dr. Zhang excels in cross-disciplinary team leadership (managing multi-million-yuan grants), mentoring (international students/early-career researchers), and translational problem-solving, leveraging skills in computational biology, clinical trial design, and big-data analytics. His interpersonal agility fosters collaborations across academia/industry, while his communication proficiency is demonstrated through award-winning bilingual teaching and international conference presentations. Beyond academia, he enjoys exploring AI programming, classical music, and mountaineering—interests that fuel his creativity and resilience in scientific pursuits.
