After obtaining the medical doctor’s degree in Utrecht in 2006, dr. Christiaan van Bergen worked as a PhD student at the department of orthopaedic surgery of the Academic Medical Center Amsterdam, the Netherlands (prof. dr. C.N. van Dijk and G.M.M.J. Kerkhoffs), which resulted in a PhD thesis on the treatment of osteochondral defects of the talus (https://www.trauma.nl/sites/www.trauma.nl/files/proefschriften/vanBergenCOMPLEETKLEUR.pdf). From 2010 to 2016, he followed specialty training orthopaedic surgery in and around Amsterdam. He was further trained in subspecialty fellowships orthopaedic trauma, shoulder surgery, and paediatric orthopaedics. Dr. Van Bergen is now consultant orthopaedic surgery in Amphia, a large training hospital in Breda, the Netherlands. He has more than 75 peer-reviewed publications on various orthopaedic subjects and has presented his research at numerous national and international congresses. He is board member of ESSKA-AFAS (https://www.esska.org/mpage/homeafas) and member of the Dutch Paediatric Orthopedic Society (http://kinderorthopaedie.nl). His current research is focused on paediatric orthopaedics and osteochondral talar defects.
