Pro.Wenjun Mao is a Postdoctoral Co-supervisor, Distinguished Reserve Academic Leader, Associate Professor at Nanjing Medical University, and Master’s Supervisor. He was consecutively recognized as one of the World’s Most Active Scholars in Thoracic Surgery Research and ranked 8th among the Top 10 Active Researchers in Thoracic Surgery in China from 2024 to 2025. During the same period, he was listed among the Top 5% of Highly Cited Chinese Researchers by CNKI and has five papers ranked in the ESI Global Top 1% Highly Cited Papers. He is an honoree of the Jiangsu Province “333 Project” Talent Program, the Taihu Lake Talent Plan (HighLevel Health Talent), and the Wuxi City Health “Double Hundred” Outstanding Talent Initiative. Currently, he serves as a Youth Committee Member of the Thoracic Surgery Branch of Jiangsu Medical Association and a Key Young Medical Talent of the Jiangsu Science & Education Strengthening Health Project. He holds memberships and fellowships in several international societies, including Sigma Xi (The Scientific Research Honor Society, USA), Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine (UK), Member of The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS, USA), and Member of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT). He holds various editorial roles, including Executive Associate Editor of iMeta, Academic Editor for PLOS Medicine, BMC Medicine, and Exploration, Scientific Editor for Military Medical Research, Section Editor for Engineering, and Guest Editor for special issues of Research, CJCR, and IJB. In 2024, he received the Outstanding Executive Associate Editor award from iMeta and was recognized as an Excellent Young Editorial Board Member of Exploration. The same year, he ranked 3rd nationally (1st in Thoracic Surgery) on the Boao Medical List Hot List. He is the founder and responsible person of the WeChat public account iThoracic. His awards include the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, the Jiangsu Provincial Science and Technology Award, and several other honors.
