Dr. Zhigang Chen earned both his Ph.D. and M.D. from Zhejiang University and currently serves as a breast oncology surgeon at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University. He holds the position of Deputy Chief Physician in the Department of Breast Surgery and is also a Doctoral Supervisor at Zhejiang University. Dr. Zhigang Chen's research focuses on cancer stem cells and the tumor microenvironment. He has pioneered the use of patient-derived organoids to investigate the mechanisms underlying treatment resistance. Dr. Chen and his team developed the first human expandable FA organoids, which accurately replicate the epithelial architecture and function observed in patients. Dr. Chen's work, including the development of a single-cell transcriptome atlas of human breast FAs and normal tissue, represents a major advancement in understanding FA biology. This research has the potential to accelerate the development of personalized therapies, particularly for patients with a high recurrence risk or increased risk of developing breast cancer. Dr. Zhigang Chen has published over 50 high-impact academic papers in prestigious journals, including Nature Communications, Molecular Cancer, Theranostics, and Cancer Letters. His significant contributions to medical research have been honored with the First Prize for Zhejiang Province Medicine and Health Science and Technology Progress, as well as the Third Prize for Science and Technology Progress from the Chinese Medical Association. Dr. Chen's academic influence is further highlighted by a Google Scholar H-index of 39, reflecting the considerable impact of his research in the scientific community. Dr. Chen has an extensive background in peer-reviewing academic manuscripts and has served as a reviewer for prestigious journals, including BBA Cancer , Cancer Letters, EBioMedicine, Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications (BBRC), and Military Medical Research. Dr. Chen’s long-term research goals are centered around the tumor microenvironment, with a focus on utilizing cutting-edge technologies to deepen the understanding of tumor biology. His work aims to explore novel approaches in cancer research, contributing to advancements in diagnostics, treatment strategies, and the overall understanding of cancer progression. Dr. Chen is committed to making significant contributions to the field of oncology and improving patient outcomes through innovative, impactful research. Dr. Chen is a skilled surgeon with excellent communication skills, allowing for effective interactions with patients, colleagues, and teams. With over five years of experience as a mentor, Dr. Chen has demonstrated a strong ability to guide and support the professional development of others.
