Dr. Giovanni Leuzzi is a highly accomplished Thoracic Surgeon currently serving in the Thoracic Surgery Division at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori of Milan, one of the leading comprehensive cancer centers in Europe, where he has been working since 2015. He graduated summa cum laude in Medicine and Surgery in 2007 from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Rome and completed his specialization in Thoracic Surgery in 2013 at Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli. During his early career, he gained extensive clinical and research experience at several prestigious Italian institutions, including Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli in Rome, Maggiore and Bellaria Hospitals in Bologna (2013–2014), and IRCCS Regina Elena National Cancer Institute in Rome, where he worked as a Senior Researcher between 2014 and 2015. His main clinical expertise focuses on thoracic surgical oncology, with particular interest in: (1) Minimally invasive thoracic surgery (VATS) and muscle-sparing approaches; (2) Surgical management of locally advanced thoracic malignancies; (3) Multimodality treatment strategies for lung cancer; (4) Surgical treatment of thymic epithelial tumors; and (5) Rare thoracic malignancies and complex mediastinal tumors. Dr. Leuzzi is actively involved in translational research programs focusing on biomarkers, tumor microenvironment, circulating tumor DNA, and prognostic modeling in thoracic oncology. In addition to his clinical activity, he maintains a strong academic profile. He has authored more than 100 scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals, with over 1000 citations and an H-index of 17. His research activity mainly focuses on rare thoracic tumors, particularly thymic malignancies, neuroendocrine tumors, immunological aspects of lung cancer, and quality-of-life outcomes after thoracic surgery. He is an active member of several international collaborative research networks and serves on the Steering Committee of the TYME (ThYmic MalignanciEs) Italian collaborative group. In 2017, he co-organized the First Italian Consensus Conference on Thymic Malignancies, a national multidisciplinary initiative that contributed to the development of shared clinical recommendations for the management of thymic tumors. Dr. Leuzzi regularly participates in international scientific meetings as an invited speaker and investigator in multicenter studies, contributing to the advancement of surgical and multidisciplinary management of thoracic cancers.
