In 2009, Dr. Plaza-Diaz graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile with a degree in Pharmacy. In 2011, he completed a Master's degree in Advances in Microbiology at the University of Granada. During that year, Dr. Plaza-Diaz joined the research group "CTS-461-Nutrition Biochemistry: Therapeutic Implications" under the direction of Prof. Angel Gil. After completing his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in June 2014 at the University of Granada with maximum distinction, he published nine papers relevant to his thesis (PMID: 23037511; PMID: 23360878; PMID: 23360880; PMID: 23360882; PMID: 23752082; PMID: 23834088; PMID: 24205115; PMID: 24852284; PMID: 25400447). He became acquainted with numerous techniques of daily use in experimental biology, including gene expression analysis by qRT-PCR (PMID: 33440736; PMID: 31398297; PMID: 28973039; PMID: 28512356; PMID: 24852284) protein analysis by Western blot, staining (H&E, DAB, and immunofluorescence) (PMID: 30685403; PMID: 29518103), and protein-protein interaction assays, RNA-seq (PMID: 34208365), bioinformatics (PMID: 33925049), and sequencing with Illumina (PMID: 33598714; PMID: 33529749; PMID: 33360047; PMID: 34344601; PMID: 35631284; PMID: 36242744; PMID: 36501021; PMID: 36532542) and Nanopore machines. As part of his postdoctoral position, Plaza-Diaz is also studying COVID-19 surveillance in wastewater samples (PMID: 34619611; PMID: 36067855; PMID: 36138059), detecting different variants of concern and creating novel public health measurements. Stanford University (California, USA) has published the list "Ranking of the World Scientists: World's Top 2% Scientists", which identifies the most influential researchers whose work has been most cited during their scientific career evaluated between 1996-2021 and also during the last year. Of the more than 100,000 researchers who appear on this outstanding list (out of almost 7 million active scientists), 116 belong to the University of Granada in 2021, and 127 in 2022, and Dr. Plaza-Diaz is part of that list both years (2021 and 2022). The H-index is 37 with 6,279 citations (6,079 without self-citations) according to Web of Science (visited on December 27, 2022). At present, Dr. Plaza-Diaz holds three initial academic credentials, "Ayudante Doctor", "Contratado Doctor" and "Profesor de Universidad Privada" from ANECA (Spain).
