During his stay in San Francisco he completed masters in cellular and molecular biology, and scientific writing. Professor Sechi currently holds the position of Head of the Clinical Department of Internal Medicine and he was Director of the Department of Experimental and Clinical Medical Sciences and of the Department of Medicine at the University of Udine. The scientific interests of Prof. Sechi are directed to the study of the pathophysiology of arterial hypertension, cardiovascular and renal diseases. He published seminal studies both in the experimental animal and clinical field. His work was fundamental for the characterization of angiotensin II receptors subtypes in the kidney and heart and for the understanding of mechanisms involved in renal disease of experimental animal models of diabetes and nephrotic syndrome. In the clinical field he has been the first to clarify the mechanisms involved in the renal dysfunction of patients with primary aldosteronism also providing for the first time the evidence of an increased incidence of cardiovascular events in these patients. Other major contributions were provided in the field of emergent cardiovascular risk factors with specific reference to lipoprotein(a) and prothrombiotic molecules. Professor Sechi has received many honors for his research achievements from international and national scientific societies and currently serves as a member of the editorial board and reviewer for many prestigious scientific journals. Prof. Sechi has produced more than 1500 publications with more than 380 articles in peer reviewed journals with an impact factor of >3000, >15.000 citations, and an H-index of 61.
