I am Mehmet Akif Vatankulu, MD, Associate Professor of Cardiology, currently serves as a faculty member in the Department of Cardiology in Istanbul Aydin University Florya Medicalpark Hospital. My academic mission is to advance cardiovascular medicine through high-impact clinical research and evidence-based interventional practice, with a strong commitment to improving patient outcomes and contributing to international guideline-driven care; what differentiates me is my combination of hands-on interventional expertise, internationally recognized research, and active engagement in global scientific collaboration. I was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2014. Earlier in my academic career, I served as a Research Fellow at the Royal Brompton Hospital between 2005 and 2006, where I was actively involved in cardiovascular research within an internationally renowned tertiary referral center. I have authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in respected international cardiology journals, serving as first author or corresponding author on many of these publications. My work has received more than 2,500 citations, and I hold a Google Scholar H-index of 25, reflecting sustained academic productivity and scientific influence. Notably, my research has been cited in both American and European cardiology guidelines, underscoring its clinical relevance and international impact. I have delivered multiple presentations at national and international scientific congresses and actively contribute to collaborative research initiatives and professional cardiology associations. In addition to my publication record, I contribute extensively to the peer-review and editorial process. I currently serve as a reviewer for leading international journals, including the American Journal of Cardiology and Renal Failure, among others. Through the review of numerous manuscripts, I support the maintenance of scientific rigor, methodological quality, and ethical standards in cardiovascular research. My involvement in academic publishing reflects my commitment to advancing high-quality, clinically meaningful scholarship. My long-term professional goal is to further develop impactful research in coronary artery disease, interventional cardiology, structural heart disease, heart failure, and preventive cardiology. I am particularly dedicated to translational research that bridges clinical practice and scientific discovery, and to contributing to international guidelines that shape contemporary cardiovascular care. Furthermore, I aim to continue mentoring young cardiologists and researchers, fostering academic excellence and integrity within the field. Professionally, I bring strong active listening and communication skills that enhance multidisciplinary collaboration and patient-centered care. My interpersonal and leadership abilities enable me to effectively guide research teams and clinical colleagues. Outside my professional responsibilities, I enjoy reading scientific and historical literature, maintaining regular physical activity, and spending meaningful time with my family, which together sustain my intellectual curiosity, resilience, and long-term dedication to academic medicine.
