Rong Guo, PhD/MD, is a cardiologist and academic leader. He is the administrative deputy director of the Department of Cardiology at Yangpu Hospital. Dr. Guo also is an associate professor of medicine at Tongji University School of Medicine. Dr. Guo is a physician educator and a clinical investigator with more than 20 years of experience in cardiovascular practice, education, and leadership. He embarked on his professional journey as a cardiology specialist at Shanghai Tenth People’s Hospital, gradually ascending the ranks to become a pillar of the cardiac arrhythmia division. While at Yangpu Hospital affiliated to Tongji University, he served as principal investigator of translational medical center. He oversees a team comprising over 30 doctors and nurses,s well as more than 10 medical students. Afterwards, he held the position of associate professor of medicine and cardiology at Tongji University School of Medicine, located in Shanghai. He is responsible for multiple professional courses for undergraduate and graduate students, and provides internship guidance. As an examiner, Dr. Guo participated in multiple national practicing physician exams and resident physician standardized training graduation exams. With a primary focus on arrhythmia interventions and new technology development, Dr. Guo has been actively involved in pioneering the initial development and conducting clinical research on cardiac arrhythmia, cardiovascular imaging, structural heart diseases, hypertension, as well as glucose and lipid metabolism disorders. Dr. Guo pioneered the first effective treatment for atrial fibrillation and was one of the early investigators of pulsed field ablation (PFA). Recent areas of investigation include new technology for minimally invasive transcatheter aortic valve replacement and transcatheter treatment of hypertension. With more than 20 published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, Dr. Guo is an expert in cardiovascular disorders and basic research. He received numerous grant awards from professional foundations. He is also a member of multiple professional societies including Shanghai Heart Rhythm Society.
