Navin Rajagopalan, MD, received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and his Medical Degree from The Ohio State University. He completed his internal medicine residency training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, before pursuing a cardiovascular fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. He obtained an additional year of training at the University of Pittsburgh in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation. Dr. Rajagopalan is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both cardiovascular medicine and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology. Dr. Rajagopalan has been active in the clinical management of heart failure and heart transplant patients since 2007. He was a member of the advanced heart failure and heart transplant team at the University of Pittsburgh from 2007 to 2009. In 2009 he was recruited to the University of Kentucky to become the Director of Heart Failure and Medical Director of Heart Transplantation. During his tenure, the heart transplant program at the University of Kentucky experienced tremendous growth, becoming a regional leader in transplantation and averaged 30-40 heart transplants per year. In 2018, he relocated to New Jersey where he was the Medical Director of Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. He was recruited back to the University of Kentucky in 2020 to serve as the Director of the Gill Heart & Vascular Affiliate Network. He is also currently the Medical Director of Ambulatory Cardiology. He is currently a member of the American College of Cardiology Heart Failure and Transplantation Council and the Item-Writing Task Force for the ABIM Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology Board Exam. He has over 60 publications in peer-reviewed journals including Circulation, Journal of American College of Cardiology, Journal of Cardiac Failure, and Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. His research interests include peripartum cardiomyopathy and donor selection for heart transplantation.
