Nan Zhang, Ph.D. in Clinical Medicine from Wuhan University, is currently working at Chongqing Medical University as a Research Fellow engaged in medical research. Her work focuses on the molecular mechanisms and epidemiological patterns of hematologic diseases, particularly leukemia, lymphoma, and anemia, with an emphasis on translating laboratory discoveries into clinical applications. Dr. Zhang’s academic interests lie at the intersection of hematologic malignancies, global disease burden, tumor immunology, and epigenetic regulation. Her motivation stems from the pressing disparities in outcomes for patients with blood cancers, especially in low- and middle-income countries. With a strong foundation in both molecular biology and big data analytics, she integrates bioinformatics, omics technologies, and clinical evidence to generate new insights that contribute to improved diagnosis, prognostication, and therapy selection. This dual expertise in translational research and epidemiological modeling distinguishes her work from many peers in the field. As of May 13, 2025, Dr. Zhang has published over 10 first-author articles and 6 co–first-author articles in internationally renowned journals. These include Leukemia (2024 Dec; 38(12):2731–2734), where she reported on disparities in pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia mortality across income levels; Blood Cancer Journal (2023 May 17;13(1):82), where she mapped the global burden and temporal trends of hematologic malignancies; and Experimental & Molecular Medicine (2022 Feb;54(2):194–205), where she identified a novel role of IGF2BP3 in stabilizing RCC2 to drive leukemia progression. In addition to her journal publications, she has presented four conference abstracts at leading international venues such as the American Society of Hematology (Blood, 2021–2023) and the European Hematology Association (EHA). Her work has been cited by peers globally and continues to inform current research and policy, contributing to a steadily rising Google Scholar H-index. She is also an active member of several scientific societies, including the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and the International Society of Hematology. Dr. Zhang has made significant service contributions to academic publishing. She has peer-reviewed over 50 manuscripts for international journals in oncology, hematology, and translational medicine. Furthermore, she has authored three invited editorials that synthesize recent developments in leukemia epigenetics and proteomics, offering expert commentary to guide future directions in these fields. Her long-term academic goals focus on uncovering novel biomarkers for hematologic malignancies, exploring the interplay between epigenetic regulators and immune pathways, and mapping trends in disease burden through large-scale data analysis. She is especially interested in addressing the unmet clinical needs of patients in under-resourced settings and hopes to contribute to more equitable healthcare delivery through global research collaborations. In her professional practice, Dr. Zhang is known for her interdisciplinary mindset and collaborative spirit. She demonstrates advanced problem-solving and data interpretation skills, effective team coordination, and clear scientific communication. Her experience leading multi-institutional research projects and mentoring medical students has also sharpened her leadership, project management, and interpersonal abilities. She is frequently involved in guiding junior researchers, helping them develop critical thinking and academic writing skills. Outside the lab, Dr. Zhang enjoys a wide array of personal interests. She is an avid hiker and nature enthusiast, often exploring mountain trails across China. She is passionate about classical literature, especially traditional Chinese poetry and philosophical works, and enjoys capturing moments through photography. She also actively engages in public science communication and health education initiatives, believing strongly in the value of translating science for society.
