My name is Dr. Yam Mun Fei, PhD, Associate Professor in Pharmacology and Chair of the Pharmacology Displine at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). I have devoted my academic career to advancing research in cardiovascular pharmacology and the pharmacological potential of natural products, with a particular focus on vascular health and antihypertensive therapies. My academic influence stems from bridging traditional medicine with modern biomedical science. I specialize in studying vasodilatory and antihypertensive effects of herbal bioactive compounds using orthogonal stimulus–response models, ex vivo vascular assays, in vivo disease models, and AI-driven spectroscopic fingerprinting. This integrative approach distinguishes my work by combining mechanistic pharmacology with innovative quality-control strategies for herbal medicines. To date, I have authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, including over 60 papers as first or corresponding author in international journals such as Journal of Ethnopharmacology, Hypertension Research, and Pharmacological Research. According to Scopus, my publications have received approximately 4000 citations, with an h-index of 35, reflecting strong academic visibility. I have also presented my work in more than 30 international and national conferences, including invited and plenary lectures. My contributions have been recognized with several research awards, and I actively participate in professional societies such as the Malaysian Pharmacological Society and registered physician (TCM). Beyond authorship, I have made substantial contributions to the academic publishing process. I have peer reviewed more than 200 manuscripts for leading journals in pharmacology, natural products, and cardiovascular research. In addition, I serve as an Senior Editor for Journal of Pharmacopuncture, and sit on the Editorial Boards of Current Hypertension Reviews and Current Traditional Medicine. I have also contributed invited commentaries and editorials in my field. My long-term professional goal is to advance integrative pharmacology by combining modern multi-omics, AI-driven data analysis, and systems pharmacology approaches to better understand the therapeutic potential of traditional herbal medicines. I am particularly interested in improving the safety, efficacy, and quality assurance of phytomedicine for cardiovascular health, with the vision of contributing to their wider global acceptance. As a researcher and mentor, I bring distinctive skills including leadership, communication, mentoring, and problem-solving abilities, developed through supervising MSc and PhD students and leading collaborative projects. These skills, together with my editorial experience, prepare me to contribute constructively to the World Journal of Biological Chemistry. Outside academia, I enjoy creative design, painting, and community engagement in traditional medicine outreach, which allow me to maintain balance and creativity in my professional life.
