Kunpeng Liu, PhD, Associate Professor, Master's Supervisor, Assistant Dean of the School of Medicine at Guangxi University, and a key member of the Guangxi Key Laboratory of Specialty Biomedicine. His research primarily focuses on intracellular material degradation systems, such as autophagic degradation of lipid droplets (LDs) and ubiquitinating proteins. Moreover, recently he focus on the immune-regulatory role of autophagic degradation of LDs and its function in disease, expecially in gastrointestinal tumor. Autophagy serves as the main route for degrading large intracellular components. Through this pathway, lipid droplets are delivered to lysosomes and broken down, leading to rapid removal of droplets and maintenance of intracellular fatty-acid balance. The law of mass conservation suggests that the products of this degradation remain inside the cell. Their group are therefore examining how these retained fatty acids and their metabolites affect cellular function, with particular attention to their impact on the immune system and the immune-microenvironment in gastrointestinal tumor. This research area is highly novel, encompassing multiple fields such as autophagy, fatty acid metabolism, innate and adaptive immunity. As the principal investigator, Dr. Liu has led two National Natural Science Foundation projects (one for young researchers and one general project), etc. As first author or corresponding author, Dr. Liu has published 12 SCI papers in prominent journals such as Cell Reports, Autophagy, and Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B. His 2022 publication in Autophagy on lipophagy has received over 60 citations within two years of its release, indicating that his research has garnered significant attention from the scientific community. He also serves as an executive director of the Guangxi Nutrition Society, an executive member of the Guangxi Medical Association-Cell Therapy Branch, and a director of the Guangxi Experimental Animal Society. Currently, he is a member of the editorial board for the SCI journal Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica and the chinese journal Genomics and Applied Biology. Dr. Liu has long been involved in academic journal work as a reviewer for SCI journals, including MedComm, Genes & Diseases and Journal of Hepatocellular Carcinoma. He invovled in over 50 English and Chinese paper reviewing in past 2024 year. In his daily life, he enjoys playing basketball and singing. He has won the university basketball championship twice and frequently participates in university singing performances.
