I'm Fernando Cardona, from Spain and I have a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Valencia. I'm working as Research Associate at the Instituto de Biomedicina de Valencia- CSIC. I'm also a University Professor at the Department of Biotechnology at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. I teach Genomics and Cellular Biology, and supervise undergraduate, Master's and PhD theses. I have published 24 articles indexed in JCR and 24 non-indexed publications, as well as a textbook and other educational materials. I participated in more than 35 international congresses. In addition, I had an intense editorial activity, having reviewed more than 200 articles indexed in JCR journals and acted as editor for more than 40. My research work focuses on the study of different mutations identified in patients with neurodegenerative diseases. In some cases, the effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in transcriptional regulatory regions, such as promoters and UTRs, are studied. In other cases, splicing changes are studied using the exon trapping technique. For nonsense mutations, inhibition of the NMD pathway is studied in cellular models to assess the effect on protein levels. In addition, in silico analysis can be used to assess the effect of missense mutations on protein structure and function. I'm good at teaching and oral communication in general. I'm also good at writing, correcting and editing written texts, both in academic or scientific fields. My hobbies are reading, watching films, music and sports.
