Liu Yang is a Chief Physician with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Surgery from Xi'an Jiaotong University's Second Affiliated Hospital, currently serving as Deputy Director of the Department of Thyroid & Bariatric Surgery at Xi'an Jiaotong University's Second Affiliated Hospital. Dr. Liu is a specialist in gastrointestinal surgery with particular expertise in minimally invasive endoscopic and interventional techniques, and his clinical work is complemented by translocational research on intestinal barrier dysfunction in digestive diseases. What distinguishes Dr. Liu in the digestive field is his innovative approach to combining clinical refinement of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiodrainage (PTCD) procedures with mechanistic research on the pathophysiology of gastrointestinal-derived systemic inflammation, particularly regarding the role of intestinal bacteria translocation and alkaline phosphatase in hepatocellular carcinoma development. Dr. Liu has made substantial contributions to gastroenterology and hepatobiliary literature. He has published many peer-reviewed articles as first author or corresponding author in high-impact journals. Second, he is dedicated to advancing the mechanistic understanding of how intestinal barrier dysfunction—particularly involving bacterial translocation, intestinal alkaline phosphatase, and neutrophil extracellular traps—contributes to the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatic fibrosis. These research directions aim to establish novel therapeutic targets and innovative approaches to prevent and treat alcohol-related and infection-associated liver diseases.
