I am Guo-Qing Ouyang, an Associate Chief Physician and Deputy Director of the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Liuzhou People’s Hospital affiliated with Guangxi Medical University, China. My clinical and academic work mainly focuses on hepatobiliary surgery, liver diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, and translational hepatology. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine from Shanxi Medical University and completed my Master’s training in Hepatobiliary Surgery at The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. I then pursued my first PhD in Hepatobiliary Surgery at Guangxi Medical University. In 2024, I started my second PhD at the Center for Alcoholic Disease, Heidelberg University, Germany, under the supervision of Professor Sebastian Mueller. These two PhD training experiences, undertaken at different stages of my academic career in China and Germany, have provided me with a broad academic background and strengthened my long-term interest in liver disease research, especially alcohol-related liver disease and chronic liver injury. My research interests include alcohol-related liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, acute liver injury, hepatocellular carcinoma, biliary tract diseases, pancreatitis, and the global burden of digestive diseases. In my clinical practice, I have been involved in the diagnosis and treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases, which has helped me identify clinically relevant questions and translate them into research topics. To date, I have published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles in the fields of hepatology, gastrointestinal surgery, oncology, bioinformatics, machine learning, and global burden of disease research. These publications include articles as first author, co-first author, corresponding author, and co-corresponding author. My work has appeared in journals such as Liver International, Cancer, BMC Medicine, Frontiers in Immunology, Cancer Medicine, Scientific Reports, and journals of the Baishideng Publishing Group. I have also contributed to international collaborative studies, including Global Burden of Disease-related publications. In addition to clinical work and scientific research, I have participated in several research projects supported by institutional and foundation grants. These experiences have helped me develop a strong understanding of study design, data interpretation, manuscript preparation, and academic communication. I am particularly interested in clinically meaningful studies that combine real-world clinical questions with robust methodology. As an applicant for the Editorial Board of the World Journal of Gastroenterology, I hope to contribute my clinical experience, research background, and publication experience to the journal. I would be pleased to support rigorous peer review, promote high-quality manuscripts, and help advance research in gastroenterology, hepatology, and hepatobiliary surgery.
