My name is Fabrizio D’Acapito, MD, PhD, and I hold the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in the Italian higher education system for the disciplinary field of General Surgery (06/C1). I currently serve as Consultant Surgeon in the Department of General Surgery and Advanced Oncologic Therapies at the Morgagni-Pierantoni Hospital in Forlì, AUSL Romagna. I am a surgeon and academic with more than twentyfive years of clinical and research experience in hepatobiliary and peritoneal malignancies. My career has focused on advancing surgical treatments for hepatic metastases, iatrogenic bile duct injuries, and more recently, integrated approaches to primary and secondary peritoneal cancers, combining cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy. What distinguishes my work is the integration of meticulous surgical technique with multidisciplinary oncology care and the mentoring of younger surgeons through innovative training programs. I have authored over 70 articles indexed in PubMed, including at least 7 publications as first or corresponding author in high-impact journals such as Surgical Endoscopy, World Journal of Clinical Cases, Surgeries and World Journal of Surgery.. My work has been cited over 2,300 times, with a Google Scholar H-index of 19 and i10-index of 28. Among my publications, eight have each been cited more than 50 times. I have delivered numerous presentations at national conferences and contributed to the development of local clinical guidelines for the management of peritoneal, colorectal, gastric, and hepatobiliary cancers. I am a member of the Italian Society of Oncologic Surgery (SICO) and actively participate in the peritoneal malignancy oncoteam. I currently serve on the editorial boards of PLOS ONE, BMC Surgery, and the International Journal of Medical Robotics and Computer Assisted Surgery, and have acted as Guest Editor for special issues in Medicina and Current Oncology. I have reviewed dozens of manuscripts for journals including PLOS ONE, BMJ Open, Scientific Reports, Surgical Endoscopy, and the Journal of Surgical Oncology, and contributed book chapters in my fields of expertise. My long-term professional goal is to further develop and disseminate evidence-based, minimally invasive, and multimodal surgical strategies for abdominal and peritoneal malignancies, while fostering education and research opportunities for surgical trainees through multicenter international studies. I bring to my profession a combination of advanced surgical skills—including traditional, laparoscopic, and fluorescence-guided techniques for colorectal, gastric, biliary, and hepatic diseases, as well as cytoreductive surgery with peritonectomy—and strong interpersonal, leadership, and mentoring abilities. I am committed to active listening, effective communication, and collaborative problem-solving to improve both patient care and academic outcomes. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time in the mountains with my wife and children, hiking and climbing via ferrata routes in the summer, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. These activities help me reconnect with my family and remind me of the deeper purpose behind my work.
