Ming-Feng Xia, MD, obtained his MD degree from Fudan University, Shanghai, China in 2012. He completed his internal medicine residency (2012-2015) and endocrinology fellowship (2015-2018) at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, China. During his Endocrinology fellowship he studied hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism in humans and animals. Following the endocrinology fellowship, he worked as a Senior Visiting Researcher in Professor Jay Horton’s lab in the Center for Human Nutrition at UT Southwestern Medical Center. The studies during his visiting research period focused on the translation projects with therapeutic potential for the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.   In clinical practice, Dr. Xia has an interest in metabolic diseases, especially nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, obesity and diabetes. His previous research revealed the influence of genetic polymorphism on NAFLD in Chinese adults and the metabolic interaction between bone, skeletal muscle and liver. He also investigated the therapeutic effect and mechanism of berberine, a single compound isolated from Rhizoma Coptidis, on treatment of obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
