Dr. Muguruma is a Distinguished Researcher in the Department of Gastroenterology and Oncology, Tokushima University, Japan. Having received his MD degree from Tokushima University in 1988, Dr. Muguruma undertook his postgraduate training at the affiliated hospitals of Tokushima University Hospital and obtained his PhD degree in 1998. He became a lecturer at Tokushima University Hospital in 2005. After attending clinical fellowship of advanced endoscopy program at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, Canada (2008-2010), Dr. Muguruma returned to Tokushima University and was promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology and Oncology, Tokushima University in 2014. He was promoted to Professor in Tokushima University Hospital in 2018. He is a member of various editorial boards and a reviewer of several scientific journals and has published more than 150 peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Muguruma is now serving as the Director of Takamatsu Municipal Hospital and visiting professor of Tokushima University. His ongoing research interests are endoscopic molecular imaging, therapeutic endoscopy and gastrointestinal oncology.
