Maria Assunta Zocco achieved her medical degree cum laude in Italy at the Catholic University of Rome. Upon her medical degree she finished the training in Internal Medicine at the Gemelli Hospital (Rome, Italy) under the supervision of prof. Antonio Gasbarrini and acted as a research fellow at the Georg August University (Gottingen, Germany) under the guidance of Prof. Giuliano Ramadori. In the following years she achieved a postgraduate specialization in Internal Medicine as well as advanced professional training courses in ultrasound and a Phd in nutrition and metabolism therapies. She is currently a researcher in Internal Medicine at the Catholic University of Rome and Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine for the medical degree course and for postgraduate specialization courses in gastroenterology and internal medicine. She is a member of several national and international scientific societies in the gastroenterological, hepatological and radiological fields. During her PhD and over the last years she has focused her scientific interests on the topics related to liver and gastrointestinal diseases. In particular her studies are focused on ultrasound applications in liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma and other liver cancers but also in inflammatory bowel diseases and related complications. An important part of her research activity is the use on innovative ultrasound techniques such as shear wave elastography and dynamic contrast enhanced ultrasound in the diagnostic and therapeutic work up of gastrointestinal diseases emphasizing the role of a non invasive multiparametric approach in this field. With her expertise in biomedical imaging, contrast agent research and multiparametric ultrasound, she has published numerous Science Citation Index journal papers and book chapters, has participated in several national and international conferences and seminars as a speaker and reviewed for many academic journals. Innovative, translational and longstanding research has always been a goal in her academic career.
