Dr Kazuo Tarao is a pretty famous scholar in Japan in the field of Gastroenterology. Having received his MD degree from Yokohama City University in 1966. He became a lecturer of Yokohama City University in 1970. He obtained PhD degree also in 1970 in Yokohama City University. Then he became a visiting assistant professor of Internal Medicine (Gastrointestinal Department) of North Western University in the United States in 1978 (Instructor, J. Donald Ostrow). Kazuo Tarao returned to Yokohama City University in 1979 and was promoted the associate professor in School of Medicine, Yokohama City University in 1979. He then transferred to the Kanagawa Cancer Center, the third largest Cancer Center in Japan) as a chief director of Internal Medicine in 1986. He became the vice president of the Cancer Center in 2002. He became the president of the Kanagawa Cancer Center in2004. He also became Guest Professor of Yokohama City University in 2004. In 2005 he settled the Tarao's Gastrointestinal Clinic as the president. His ongoing research interest are diagnosis and prevention of hepatocellular carcinoma in HBV and HCV cirrhosis. He has published more than 200 pre-reviewed articles (including about 50 papers written in English). He obtained the highest commendation (award) from Japanese Society of medical doctors (Nihon Ishikai) named "Saiko Yuko Shou" owing to the continuous efforts for the prevention of hepatocellular carcinoma in 2013. He is an honorary member of Japan Cancer Association, a welfare member of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterology. Currently, he is the president of Tarao's Gastrointestinal Clinic.
