Lemonica is a Research Fellow focusing on the gut-brain axis in disease. Following her MSc in Molecular Genetics, she completed her PhD, demonstrating that neonates born to HBeAg-negative carriers have impaired antigen presentation and develop HBV-specific T cell responses. She showed both in vivo and in vitro that common precore and core HBV mutations control viral replication via epigenetic mechanisms (acetylation and methylation) and influence natural killer ligand expression. Upon completing her second BSc in Psychology, she is currently undertaking an MSc in Clinical and Rehabilitation Psychology. Lemonica's research interests lie at the intersection of psychology, neurology, and gastrointestinal health. Specifically, she is intrigued by the relationship between the microbiome and neurological conditions like Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, she is fascinated by the role of cognition in both mental health and neurodegenerative disorders. Furthermore, Lemonica is interested in exploring the emerging field of the brain-gut axis and its impact on cognitive function and psychological well-being. By investigating these connections, Lemonica aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex interplay between the mind, brain, and body.
