Dr. Omesh Goyal, D.M. Gastroenterology, is a Professor of Gastroenterology at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana, India. He has recently been selected as a member of the Rome Partners Education Committee, Rome Foundation, USA. Dr. Goyal has extensive experience in clinical practice, research, and teaching. With a specialized focus on disorders of gut-brain interaction, gastrointestinal motility, and liver diseases, Dr. Goyal has contributed significantly to the academic landscape. His involvement in shaping Indian guidelines for various gastrointestinal disorders (constipation, IBS, MASLD, AIH, ACLF, etc.), and his contributions to clinical trials and research protocols reflect his commitment to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care. Dr. Goyal has 60 PubMed-indexed publications (15 as a first or corresponding author), 18 publications in other journals, and 9 chapters in books. His articles have received 2773 Citations to date, with a h-index of 23, and an i10-index of 37. He has presented four oral papers and 25 posters at international conferences. He has been invited to deliver 18 lectures at national conferences. He has received multiple awards, including the National Scholar Award in Sweden in 2011, the Young Clinician Award, the Best Paper Award, the PRF Research Award, etc. Dr Goyal is the Governing Council member of the Indian Neuro-gastro Motility Association for 8 years. He has been awarded Fellowship of several professional associations, including the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, the Indian National Association for Study of Liver, and the Indian Academy of Clinical Medicine. He is an active life member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy of India, the Indian Medicine Association, and the Association of Physicians of India. Dr Goyal has reviewed more than 120 articles for various academic journals and a few editorials, ensuring high standards of scientific rigor and innovation in published research. Dr. Goyal has been actively working in the field of Neuro-gastroenterology and Motility for the last 15 years. He has been instrumental in setting up of the Gastrointestinal motility Lab in his institute, which has facilities of carrying out various investigations like Hydrogen Breath testing, Esophageal and Ano-rectal High resolution manometry, 24 hour pH-Impedance study, Biofeedback therapy, Colonic transit time study, etc. Dr. Goyal is committed to fostering a collaborative approach to research and clinical practice. Dr. Goyal has been blessed with a diverse set of professional skills that have been refined through years of academic, clinical, and administrative experience. He practices active listening with empathy and attentiveness, ensuring clear understanding of concerns from patients, students, and colleagues. His communication skills are both effective and adaptable, with which he conveys complex medical concepts in a simplified manner and carries out detailed academic discussions with peers. He has excellent interpersonal relationship skills, making it easy for him to foster collaboration and build trusting relationships within multidisciplinary teams. His leadership skills have been proven multiple times when he successfully led academic and clinical teams, organized conferences, and driven institutional initiatives towards positive outcomes. Dr. Goyal is also deeply committed to mentoring and skill development for students and junior faculty, helping them achieve professional growth. His management skills are reflected in his ability to plan and coordinate academic and clinical activities, ensuring smooth workflow and adherence to institutional goals. He approaches each challenge with a problem-solving mindset, utilizing analytical thinking, evidence-based strategies, and creative solutions to overcome obstacles and deliver optimal results.
