Peter Jarcuska obtained MD (1987) and PhD (2001) degree from Pavol Jozef Safarik University, Faculty of Medicine in Kosice. He is currently working as head hepatologist and Professor of Internal Medicine at 1st Dept of Internal Medicine, Univesity Hospital Kosice. He was President of Slovak Society for Hepatology (2007-2015). He is co-founder (2015) and  Governing board member of Central European Hepatological Cooperation - CEHC (since 2016) and head of Section of Internal Medicine at the Slovak Medical Chamber (since 2015).  Main topics of his clinical research are: viral hepatitis (epidemiology, clinical course and treatment), liver cirrhosis and its complications, primary biliary cholangitis and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. He was head of working group HEPAMETA, that investigated the incidence of hepatitis B and C and risk factors for its transmission.  Dr. Jarcuska studied the impact of metabolic syndrome on clinical course of chronic hepatitis B, impact of cholesterol metabolism on HBV DNA levels and pleiotropic effects of statins in liver diseases. He was principal investigator in several clinical studies and grants. Results of his clinical research have been published in several impacted journals and chapters in books.
