Dr. Edward Villa is an assistant professor in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at University of Illinois at Chicago Health with a primary specialty in advanced therapeutic endoscopy. This includes procedures involved in the diagnosis, evaluation, and treatment of pancreaticobiliary diseases like pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer, and bile duct cancers; endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with particular focus in cholangioscopy, electrohydraulic lithotripsy for large bile duct stones, and palliative novel endoscopic therapies for bile duct cancers; endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided transluminal drainage techniques for gallbladder drainage in cholecystitis, pancreatic fluid collections, and extraluminal abscesses; endoscopic suturing for bariatric endoscopic procedures (such as Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty and Endoscopic Transoral Outlet Repair), repair of luminal injuries, management of postsurgical complications, and esophageal diverticular repair; endoscopic therapies for Barrett's Esophagus, such as cryoablation and radiofrequency ablation; and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) techniques for removal of large, complex lesions within the gastrointestinal tract. He is also considered a leader in Endoscopic Ergonomics with focus on injury prevention among endoscopists.
