Biography Andrzej Wędrychowicz graduated the Medical School at the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University, Poland in Krakow in 1994. In 2001 he achieved medical license issued by the Regional Medical Board in Krakow, Poland. In 2000 he obtained the degree of doctor of medical sciences (Ph.D). Title of the doctoral dissertation was "Clinical and prognostic value of interleukin 1 beta, interleukin 6 and interleukin 1 receptor antagonist in serum and stool in children with ulcerative colitis". Andrzej Wedrychowicz continued postgraduate education, reaching specialization diploma in the 1st degree of pediatrics (2000), diploma of a specialist in the field of pediatrics (2005), diploma of a specialist in the field of gastroenterology (2013) and diploma of a specialist in the field of pediatric gastroenterology (2017). Additionally, he obtained diploma of the ability to perform endoscopic examinations in the field of panendoscopy and colonoscopy issued by the Polish Society of Gastroenterology (2014). He works at the Department of Pediatrics, Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Institute of Paediatrics, Jagiellonian University Medical College, Krakow, Poland on a position of teaching assistant, since 2004, an adjunct, since 2010, and assistant professor, since 2019. In his research activity, several areas of research can be identified: inflammatory mediators and their potential use as markers of inflammatory activity of IBD, the role of bacterial microbiome in the development of IBD, genetic background of IBD, secretion of enteropeptides and inflammatory mediators in gastrointestinal diseases in children, methods of enteral and parenteral nutrition and related enterohormonal regulation, Helicobacter pylori infection in children, Pancreas diseases in children, Andrzej Wedrychowicz participated in total 20 research projects and grants, including 1 international project under the aegis of ESPGHAN, 5 grants of the Committee for Scientific Research, Poland, 1 research grant from Ovita Nutricia Research Foundation and 13 research grants of the Jagiellonian University Medical College. Andrzej Wedrychowicz is a member of European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) working in the Working Group for Inflammatory Bowel Disease of ESPGHAN and Polish Society of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Children's Nutrition, working in the Sections for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Endoscopic Section and Pancreas Diseases’ Section.
