My name is Dr. James Tarbox, M.D., an associate professor in allergy & immunology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) in Lubbock, TX. I completed my medical school there and was senior internal medicine resident of the year at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. I completed a fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis where I worked in the laboratory of Dr. Megan Cooper. I joined TTUHSC in 2013 restarting the Division of Allergy & Immunology. My interests include clinical allergy, chronic urticaria, hereditary angioedema, primary immunodeficiency and drug allergy. This includes penicillin allergy and evaluation of delabeling protocols. I work in an academic setting with residents, medical students and undergraduate students. We are a tertiary referral center for complex patients, and clinical research is strongly encouraged. I have been a Provider of the Month twice in 2025 and an outstanding clerkship educator in 2023. I have been on the editorial board of World Journal of Experimental Medicine since 2020. I am also on the editorial board of the Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and have written one editorial for them on lanadelumab and hereditary angioedema in 2025. I have been first author on six manuscripts and last author on eight in the field of allergy & immunology. I have also written two book chapters, one on atopic dermatitis, the other on allergen immunotherapy. My h-index is 9 and I have 28 citations. I am a fellow in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology and American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. I am currently on two national committees with the Academy involving skin diseases & drugs, biologics, and vaccines. I have reviewed 28 manuscripts, many with Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology & World Journal of Clinical Cases. I also have participated in numerous talks at the community/regional level on podcasts, radio and news stations in the field of allergy & immunology. Professional skills include communication, mentoring and problem solving. I enjoy traveling and sports.
