Yiu Wing Kam (Jason) has a B.Sc. in biochemistry from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, an M.Phil. in pharmacology from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Hong Kong. He also served as a postdoctoral researcher between 2008 and 2019, at Singapore Immunology Network (SIgN), A*STAR. Before joining Duke Kunshan University (DKU), he was a senior lecturer at Republic Polytechnic, Singapore. Jason's major area of research is studying the adaptive immune response in patients (focusing on IgG class switching and epitope identification). He is also interested in exploring the virus-host interaction, with findings that will contribute to biomarker identification and the development of immunotherapy. In addition, he hopes to draw on his research knowledge to develop better vaccine candidates against infectious diseases (particularly epitope-specific antibodies and epitope specificity at single amino acid level). Furthermore, he seeks to develop new investigative techniques and data collection methods to explore new research areas and derive results of publication quality. To explore the possibility of more comprehensive infectious disease control strategies, I collaborate with DKU students (individuals or groups) to research the knowledge of different infectious diseases currently faced by China and identify ways to address the challenges. After a year of BSL-2 laboratory re-renovation at DKU Innovation Building, I am currently developing my research lab focusing on infectious disease research. I hope to use my research knowledge to identify disease-specific biomarkers and develop better vaccine candidates to combat infectious diseases (especially epitope-specific antibodies and epitope specificity at the single amino acid level). With the support of DKU, I have currently published 2 peer-reviewed scientific publications. At the same time, I will spend the next 3 years setting up a biomarker identification platform in collaboration with DKU Global Health Research Center. Between 2022 and 2024, I served as a reviewer for 16 peer-reviewed journals, assessing the quality of submitted manuscripts, providing expert commentary, and reviewing author responses to see if they have addressed my concerns during the review process. Between 2022 and 2024, I was invited to serve as a guest editor for a scientific journal and develop two special issues. I hope that this platform will continue to promote strategies to prevent and treat infectious diseases and prepare for future disease outbreaks. In addition, I will make use of this opportunity to support our students’ research efforts and demonstrate good research practice during the research activities.
