Ming Shen, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the College of Animal Science and Technology at Nanjing Agricultural University, where he has been on faculty since earning his doctorate in 2014. He has led more than ten national- and provincial-level research programs—including grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Jiangsu Provincial Natural Science Foundation—and his work on autophagy and ovarian physiology has earned recognition from peers at home and abroad. As first or corresponding author, he has published multiple papers in leading journals (Autophagy; Development × 2; Redox Biology; Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle; Journal of Advanced Research; International Journal of Biological Sciences; Journal of Biological Chemistry × 2; FASEB Journal × 2; Cell Death & Disease; International Journal of Biological Macromolecules; Endocrinology; Biology of Reproduction; Reproduction; Theriogenology; Antioxidants; Journal of Cellular Physiology), with five articles in journals with IF > 10, six with IF > 9, eighteen with IF > 5, and a single highest IF of 16.1. His highest-cited paper has accrued over 190 citations, and his findings have been featured in monographs such as Endocrine Cells: Advances in Research and Application. He was selected among Reproduction’s 2019 Highly Cited Papers and the Journal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle’s 2023 Most Cited Articles. He serves as Guest Editor for Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology and Genes, is an Editorial Board Member of Scientific Reports and a Young Editorial Board Member of Animal Advances, and sits on the council of the Jiangsu Zoological Society. He is a member of the Society for Reproductive Biology (SRF), the Endocrine Society, and the Chinese Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, and acts as a special reviewer for over 30 SCI journals (including Autophagy and Journal of Pineal Research). He has reviewed grants for the Guangdong Provincial Natural Science Foundation, the NSFC, Academic Bridge, the F6 Publishing platform, and the National Science & Technology Evaluation Center, and served as a paper judge for ENDO 2021–2024. As an expert representative, he contributed to the drafting of two provincial technical standards. His honors include the Higher Education Excellent Research Achievement Award (Second Prize, 2019 & 2023), the Nanjing Agricultural University Young Faculty President’s Reward, the Zhongshan Academic Rising Star Award, the Jiangsu Society of Animal Science & Veterinary Medicine Youth Science Award, and inclusion in the ScholarGPS Global Top Scholars list. In 2023, he received the Wiley China Open Science High Contribution Author Award and the Outstanding Presentation Award at the Young Scientists Forum of the Chinese Association of Animal Science & Veterinary Medicine. At the invitation of Professor Klionsky—Editor-in‑Chief of Autophagy and a preeminent expert in the field—he co‑authored the Guidelines for the Use and Interpretation of Assays for Monitoring Autophagy (4th edition, 2021). Looking ahead, he is committed to advancing molecular insights into autophagy and reproductive health, leveraging strong active listening, clear scientific communication, collaborative interpersonal skills, strategic leadership, dedicated mentorship, efficient project management, and creative problem‑solving to drive translational breakthroughs. Outside the laboratory, he enjoys listening to classical music, studying Buddhism and history, exploring famous scenic sites, taking leisurely walks, and playing table tennis.
