My name is Tan Gao, an Associate Chief Physician, Master Supervisor and Doctor of Medicine in the Department of Gastroenterology, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a category of refractory chronic intestinal inflammatory disorders. Due to the persistent chronic intestinal inflammation, IBD patients are at high risk of developing colitis-associated colorectal cancer (CAC). Our team has long focused on the molecular mechanisms of IBD and its carcinogenesis and has made significant discoveries. We first found that GSDME-mediated pyroptosis of intestinal epithelial cells promotes the release of HMGB1, which induces the proliferation of colon cancer cells and the expression of PCNA through the ERK1/2 pathway, thereby promoting the occurrence of CAC tumors. This finding reveals the association between pyroptosis and CAC tumor development, providing a new perspective for the study of CAC pathogenesis. We also revealed that the down-regulation of FUT7 expression leads to a reduction in the homing of intestinal Tregs and a weakening of their immunosuppressive function, which is a key mechanism of intestinal immune homeostasis imbalance in IBD. This research not only provides new insights into the pathogenesis of IBD but also opens up new avenues for the development of novel IBD therapies. Interventions based on FUT7 may become an important direction for personalized treatment of IBD. As the first or corresponding author, I have published 14 related research achievements in excellent journals, such as Gastroenterology, Science Bulletin, J Hematol Oncol, J Crohns Colitis, Cell Rep, BMC Med, Cancer Lett, and Eur J Cell Biol, with more than 786 citations and an h-index of 11. I have also reviewed more than ten manuscripts. I have been extensively involved in researching the molecular mechanisms underlying IBD and its progression to carcinogenesis. I am good at communicating with team members and guiding them to solve problems. I like running because it can calm my heart.
