I am Caecilia Sukowati, Ph.D. Currently, I am holding a position as a senior researcher at the Liver Cancer Unit of the Italian Liver Foundation NPO and the Eijkman Research Center for Molecular Biology, Research Organization for Health, National Research and Innovation Agency of the Republic of Indonesia. My affiliations in Italy and Indonesia are integral to my daily efforts in fostering biomedical research and collaboration in hepatology between the two countries. Currently, my research group focuses on viral hepatitis and the cellular heterogeneity of liver cancer, as well as the development of targeted therapies based on cancer biomarkers. This work employs a comprehensive translational approach, incorporating in silico (computational analysis), in vitro models, animal models (including transgenic and immunosuppressed mice), and clinical samples collected from European and Asian cohorts. I had contributed for more than 50 research items in international publications where 21 as first and 32 as corresponding author, with Google Scholar's H-index: 16 (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=oCm3fVEAAAAJ&hl=it). I have given more than 20 invited lectures in international academic conference in Asia, Europe, and America. For now, I am also active in professional association membership such as Ikatan Ilmuwan Indonesia Internasional (I4); European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL). Specify the additional contributions have you made to academic journals, including how many manuscripts have you peer reviewed and how many editorials you have written for academic journals. I have published for more than 50 academic papers including 3 editorials in international gastroenterology/hepatology journals, with more 1100 citations (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=oCm3fVEAAAAJ&hl=it). Since 2011, I have been actively participating in dozens peer review activity in medicine, basic science, and translational medicine articles, including for paper Annals of Hepatology, BMC publisher, Molecular Medicine, WJG publisher, etc., and acting as an Editorial Board member for BioMed Research International. Given the rapid advancements in the field of biomedicine, I am confident that significant breakthroughs in cancer research will emerge in the coming years. However, science is inherently dynamic, and the pursuit of knowledge is an ongoing process, making scientific research an indispensable part of human progress. In the near future, I envision myself continuing my current research activities in hepatology. Additionally, I aspire to contribute to academia through teaching, recognizing it as a meaningful way to give back to society. Moreover, I believe that expanding both national and international collaborations will be a crucial strategy in developing effective solutions to pressing challenges. Throughout my scientific career, I have been honored with several awards, including the L’Oréal-UNESCO for Women in Science from Indonesia, multiple fellowships, and various research grants from Asian, European, and American cancer associations. In addition to my research endeavors, I actively mentor and supervise graduate, undergraduate, and international research fellows specializing in translational hepatology. My academic responsibilities include serving as a co-supervisor for PhD students at the University of Trieste, Italy, Additionally, I oversee postdoctoral researchers at the National Research and Innovation Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BRIN) and mentor international research fellows from Indonesia, Vietnam, Italy, Brazil, Palestine, and the Philippines. Furthermore, I serve as a research thesis advisor for both bachelor’s and master’s students in Indonesia and Italy and have been invited as a guest lecturer at multiple universities across Asia. I enjoy reading, especially recent news in science, as well as engaging in traveling. I also have a passion for teaching and mentoring, which extends beyond my professional role. Additionally, I appreciate music and occasionally indulge in creative writing.
