Tom Darius was born in Ranchi (India), September 29th 1977. He attended high school at the Sint Pieterscollege in Leuven, Belgium. He went on to take his degree in medicine at the KU Leuven and graduated cum laude in 2002. He then started a specialist training in general surgery at the Leuven University Hospitals under supervision of Prof. P. Broos and obtained his degree as a general surgeon in 2008. He started a fellowship in abdominal transplant surgery under guidance of Prof. J. Pirenne from 2008 until 2010. In 2010, he joined the surgery and abdominal transplantation unit at the University Clinic Saint Luc, Brussels as a staff member. Tom is married to Katrien Jansen and they have two children, Sofie and Anna.
