Core Tip

Core Tip: This study explored changes of retinal microcirculation in patients with complicated diabetic retinopathy after silicone oil (SO) tamponade using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). SO tamponade was associated with decreased deep retinal vascular density (VD), increased retinal thickness, and enlargement of the foveal avascular zone (FAZ). After SO removal, deep retinal VD partially increased, whereas FAZ enlargement persisted. OCTA may serve as a valuable tool for postoperative follow-up and clinical management of patients after vitrectomy.
